Nicolas Jebran | Designer Spotlight

If the name Nicolas Jebran is not completely familiar to you, I can assure you that his designs are ones you’ve fawned over recently. The Lebanese fashion designer has taken his talents from his home country’s 1999 fashion reality show competition to mainstream media; showing us all that dreams do, indeed, come true. With hard work, innovative vision and unique designs, Jebran has established himself as a go-to for celebrities looking to make a statement. Dressing the likes of fashion icons such as Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rita Ora and Kylie Jenner; his pieces consistently demand to be seen. We spoke with Jebran in regards to reports of Vogue’s stance on Eastern European designers staying power and we inquired to his thoughts on Arabic design houses and the political climate of our world. Jebran simply stated, “Our ability, as Arabic designers, to combine modern, classy, and trendy puts us in a great place. I’m usually not into politics, but political stability has its influence on every citizen whether local or international, so of course it affects our work, our market and our interpretation of things. Let’s not forget that fashion is a reflection of what we carry inside, whether chaotic or peaceful.”

BASIC believes Nicolas Jebran’s newest Spring/Summer 2017 line is no different, telling the story of a woman demanding to be noticed, in the most elegant way. Sultry silhouettes, precise placements of designs and exquisite use of color give his looks that oh so coveted ‘wow factor’ seldom achieved so organically. “I tend to combine classical with modern,” Jebran told BASIC. “I design dresses inspired by myths, fairytales and different eras. I tend to create my own world of beauty in my designs and transform my collections into a beautiful reflection of my inspiration.”

His latest collection mirrors a magical, romantic energy. Neutrals are accom- panied by rich gemstone hues coexisting eloquently with cascading loose ruffles, high necks, and high-low hems. The prints, worldly and whimsical, compliment the shape of each piece. No corners were cut when it came to details, the belting on numerous pieces, such as on one of our favorite looks (a black mesh with gold brocade overlay, deep V-neckline, high-low hem, and ornate ruffle) incorporated two gold pearl-like ‘loops’ for the end of the belt. Jebran’s design cross over into their own distinct category of wearable art.
