BASIC: Amor Amor/Cash Cash (AA/CC) is considered a wearable art concept. Tell us about the meaning behind this collection and what inspired you to bring it to life?
LUNA: AA/CC is a psychedelic collection. It’s bold, hypnotic and mature, focusing on stripes. I was inspired by life, love and money, basically all the things to die for.
BASIC: When an artist develops an idea in their head, they typically have a very particular image that goes along with it. Did this line stay close to what you had originally envisioned or did it expand into something completely different?
LUNA: Usually, I change a lot during the making process, but this time was different. I consider this collection to be my favorite. I had stripes in my head from the beginning, all sorts of stripes. I just had to put them together and create the drama.
BASIC: If your collection was music, what song would we hear?
LUNA: “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish.
BASIC: What quote represents your attitude for life?
LUNA: “If you don’t have a seat at the table, you’re probably on the menu.”
BASIC: What kinds of emotions or reactions do you hope people will have when viewing your collection?
LUNA: I hope that it will have an impact—love it or hate it—as long as it makes you feel something the goal is achieved.
BASIC: If you could hide a secret message inside one of your garments, what would it be and why?
LUNA: You do you.
BASIC: If you had the opportunity to redesign the wardrobe for a film or television series, which one would you choose and why?
LUNA: Any movie by [Quentin] Tarantino because he is a genius and an inspiration. All the movies he produced are pure art.
BASIC: What clothing fads did you like most as a child?
LUNA: Knee-high socks and denim or denim on denim.
BASIC: What is one of your most defining moments in life and how has it influenced your career?
LUNA: It was a moment when I was very close to death and very unhappy with my work life, so I decided to do what makes me happy, to risk a little and see what happens. It was the best decision ever and this is how I started doing art and fashion, living life and wearing a smile.
