We had the opportunity to have an intimate conversation with Tasya and delve into her unique clothing collection where we discovered how her artistry influences her fashion expression, strategies for curating a versatile yet timeless wardrobe, and a unique approach to repurposing an outfit.
What methods do you use to discover fashion designers and what factors do you consider important when searching for them?
My artistic sensibility guides me in seeking fashion designers whose work resonates with my visual and conceptual preferences. I’m drawn to designers whose collections evoke emotion and tell stories. Innovation and originality are key factors, and I am intrigued by designers who push the boundaries of cleverness, experiment with new materials and/or concepts, and challenge conventional norms, much like artists do in their respective fields.
Which fashion brands do you find yourself gravitating towards the most?
I love brands that have a minimalist aesthetic. At the same time, I love brands that integrate visionary elements, structured compositions, and detailed, luxurious fabrics into their art form.
Are there any pieces in your closet that carry a distinctive or personal backstory?
My hat collection. Each hat tells a story, represents a moment in time, or transmutes an explicit feeling. They’re not just accessories. They’re a tangible reflection of my intimate sequence and spirit. Whether I’m wearing one to complete an outfit or to express a response, each hat carries a piece of my history and a touch of my personality.
What do you believe are the necessary components for creating a wardrobe that is both versatile and timeless?
Creating a wardrobe that is both versatile and timeless requires careful consideration and curation. It should be able to adapt to various occasions, remain relevant over the years, and reflect one’s unique style. Timeless ensembles are anchored in classic silhouettes with a focus on high quality, well-tailored craftsmanship.
What type of belongings can we find in your closet?
I have a selection of classic attire staples, including tailored blazers, button-down shirts, jeans, and versatile trousers. My accessories are concise yet carefully chosen. They comprise of quality leather belts, a classic watch, vintage jewelry, and scarves. Each accessory serves to elevate and personalize my outfits. I have a small collection of handbags, ranging from a black leather tote for work to a crossbody bag for everyday use. Each bag is chosen for its functionality and enduring style. My closet also includes transitional pieces like lightweight cardigans and layering sweaters that allow me to adapt my outfits for different seasons and climates.
Is there a specific color or fashion trend that you are inclined towards?
Always black and neutrals.
Have you established any specific kind of system in organizing your closet? Could you outline how it’s set up?
Nothing too crazy. I basically organize my clothing into individual sections based on types and styles, including tank tops, short-sleeve tops, long-sleeve tops, outerwear, accessories, and shoes. Establishing it this way just makes the clothing and accessories visible and easily accessible.
What is your unique fashion statement or how would you define your sense of style?
I would say my sense of style is a blend of both masculine and feminine perspectives, a dynamic interplay of these contrasting fundamentals. It is a reflection of the harmonious duality within me, an extension of my definitive language. It’s a way for me to convey the multifaceted aspects of my reality—strong, sophisticated, and unapologetically myself.
What was your process in discovering and perfecting this personal style?
It’s been a progression of immutable analysis and artistic experimentation. I’ve gone deep into introspection which helped me understand and appreciate the diverse aspects of my nature and how they influence my sense of autonomy. Over time, I understood who I was and how I wanted to express myself on a physical level.
Can you recommend any original ways to repurpose an outfit?
I just love putting things away for months, years even, then bringing them back into rotation. They have a sense of renewal and endurance once you give them some space and time. New life, new statement, new look.
What is that one outfit you wear when you aim to exude confidence?
A white t-shirt, leather pants, a pair of heels, and my hat.
What do you consider your signature piece in your wardrobe and why?
Again, that would be my hat because I wear one every day. I even did a hat collaboration years ago and named it “THE SIGNATURE.” It’s literally an extension of my soul.
Is there a recent fashion trend or style that has caught your eye?
I don’t necessarily adhere to the idea of trends. It’s not a rebellion against the current styles, but I am more driven by a deep appreciation for the distinct and indefinite, seeking to capture something more profound and enduring in my style. Artistry, after all, is about expressing one’s inner world and landscape. It’s about conveying a message, a feeling, or a story through the medium of clothing. And so, I gravitate towards clothing that transcends the temporary allure of trends. I seek pieces that possess an intrinsic vitality, an elegance that defies the limitations of time.
What is the most treasured item in your wardrobe and why?
It would be a necklace that a dear friend of mine gave me a long time ago as a gift. It has sentimental meaning and it’s something that I wear every day that is close to my heart.
Can you elaborate on the evolution of your personal fashion style over time?
The evolution of my style has been a captivating formation, one deeply intertwined with my identity as an artist. It’s a narrative of discovery, creative exploration, and a growing connection to the power of expression through clothing. As an artist, I’ve come to realize that style is a dynamic and ever-evolving form of self-assertion. It’s a reflection of my growth, understanding, and evolving creative perception. It’s a medium through which I communicate my character to the world, and it holds the power to inspire and provoke thought. Today, my personal fashion style is a reflection of my journey and an ongoing examination of the intersection between clothing and creativity. Through my evolving style, I continue to convey the beauty, complexity, and depth of the human experience, one outfit at a time.
