Where did the inspiration for “Ritual” come from?
I wanted to use my body to make still life images and explore the idea of power, sexuality, and domestic labor. I was looking at Dutch paintings and vintage pin-up photography, particularly those of burlesque performers from the 1930s and food photography from the 1950s. Historically, women have ritualistically curated the home, arranged flowers, and cooked meals. I was also thinking about spells, superstition, and seduction.

What is the idea behind the message you want to transmit?
“Ritual” is a series of self-portraits depicting playful and sensual tableaus that explore the power and vulnerability of womanhood. Each vignette depicts moments of mysticism, domesticity, and seduction. I arranged objects and organic elements that spoke to fertility and power. For some of the larger flower sculptures, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Marissa Bosquez-White.
