The publication in 2023 of Daily Bat Volume 1, Sebastian Magnani’s photographic series of Batman taking some time off from saving the world to enjoy the simpler things in life, marked a significant milestone in the photographer’s artistic journey. This new chapter was not just about uncovering new dimensions of Batman’s character, but also about Sebastian’s own path of self-discover, allowing him to reflect on his personal growth and artistic evolution through the transformation of his iconic subject.
Sebastian embarked on a new series in early 2024, culminating in Daily Bat Volume 2. As before, he harnessed his passion for travel, shooting the new series in a variety of locations around the world such as Dubai, Italy, France, and Los Angeles, one again setting out to capture resonant photographs of the caped crusader’s daily existence. This time however, instead of using professional models, he began inviting local people to take on the superhero’s role in some shoots, under the mantra, “Everyone can be Batman,” as a reflection of the character’s complexity.
Initially uncertain about the potential for a second volume, Magnani’s vision soon crystallized as he reconnected with the essence of what made the Daily Bat series so compelling. What began as a tentative exploration quickly invoiced into a fervent creative surge, leading to the production of 55 new artworks in just six months.
Looking ahead, Magnani remains open to where this journey will lead him, envisioning endless possibilities for the Daily Bat series. He plans to explore new destinations, and involve celebrities and actors who could either dress up as the Dark Knight or interact with him, further blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy.
