KYRA ZIMIN XU

THE LANGUAGE

Otherworldly / Futuristic / Extraterrestrial / Biomechanical / Dramatic / Wearable Sculpture

THE MATERIALS

Electroplated PLA / Plant-Based Resin / UV Resin / Chrome Powder / Angelina Fusible Film / Stainless Steel

IF FASHION DISAPPEARED

“I’d become a concept artist for films or video games, designing characters, armour, weapons, and creatures. I’ve always been fascinated by creating things that feel like they belong to another species or another civilisation.”

Raised on mythology, Classic of Mountains and Seas, Pokémon, tokusatsu, and fantasy RPGs, Xu transforms an early fascination with imaginary species into a distinctly extra- terrestrial design language.

THE REBELLION

Not everything needs to mean something.

“I’d love for us to stop treating creativity like an exam where every detail has a hidden meaning. Maybe the curtain is just blue be- cause the artist liked blue.”

For Xu, instinct, taste, and visual pleasure are reason enough to create.

THE MUSE

Lady Gaga in the Diabolon Helm. Alien, insect-like, and commanding, the piece feels built for an artist Xu admires for continually reinventing her visual identity. “I’d love to see her wearing the piece as though it had always belonged to her.”

THE ANTI-MINIMALIST

Xu imagines a future beyond beige, gray, and the fear of being “overdressed.” Her alternative: more goths, lolitas, maximalists, experimentation, and individuality, alongside jewelry liberated from precious metals and gemstones through 3D printing and unconventional materials.

THE FIELD NOTES

“A research journal of a scientist studying life on another planet, filled with imagined creatures, evolutionary sketches, anatomical drawings, and notes about organisms that don’t exist yet.”

OPENING SCENE

A National Geographic-style documentary from a planet that doesn’t exist. Macro cameras track unfamiliar species through an alien ecosystem as a narrator calmly documents their anatomy. A creature emerges from its cocoon, Xu’s jewellery no longer worn as decoration but evolved as part of its body.
