Samantha Gallacher: Taking Rugs Off the Sidelines

For Samantha Gallacher, the rug has never been an afterthought. Through Art+Loom, the Miami-based studio she founded, Gallacher has repositioned an object traditionally used to complete a room as something capable of defining it—transforming textiles into expressive, collectible works of art.

Her approach is informed by a career spanning multiple sides of the design industry. Beginning in product design at West Elm, Gallacher developed an understanding of large-scale production before co-founding multidisciplinary design firm IG Workshop. That combination of manufacturing knowledge, interior design, and textile development would eventually provide the foundation for Art+Loom, where experimentation in material and production meets a distinctly artistic point of view.

Since its founding, Art+Loom has expanded that vision through collaborations with leading designers and presentations across the international design circuit, from Milan and Dubai to Paris and New York. Rather than treating rugs as a neutral backdrop, the studio places color, composition, texture, and craftsmanship at the center of the room.

Now, Gallacher is extending that philosophy beyond textiles with Untold Editions, a new gallery concept in New York City. Designed to present Art+Loom alongside independent furniture designers and emerging international talent, the space marks a natural progression in her practice—from creating collectible design to building a platform for it. What began beneath our feet is becoming something much larger: a conversation about where art, object, and interior design meet.
