BASIC Magazine, in collaboration with Kavyar, announces FASHION / FRAME — The International Fashion Photography Awards, a new global competition created to discover, recognize, and give greater visibility to exceptional voices in contemporary fashion photography.
Opening October 5, 2026, FASHION / FRAME invites photographers from around the world to submit original work across six categories spanning studio photography, location, experimental fashion, beauty, movement, and complete editorial storytelling. Submissions will remain open through November 16, 2026.
Fashion photography has always been more than documentation. At its strongest, it creates a world around fashion—through light, movement, environment, beauty, styling, composition, and story. FASHION / FRAME was created to celebrate the photographers behind those worlds and to create a platform where compelling work can be discovered on the strength of the image itself, regardless of following, status, or publication history.
In an image landscape increasingly shaped by speed, algorithms, and artificial generation, BASIC and Kavyar are turning the focus back toward intentional image-making and the people behind the camera. The competition is dedicated exclusively to original photography, with no AI-generated or AI-assisted imagery permitted.
Across the six categories, 18 photographers will be recognized, with First, Second, and Third Place awarded in each. All six First Place winners will be published in the January issue of BASIC Magazine, extending FASHION / FRAME beyond recognition and into tangible editorial exposure across print, digital, and social.

For work that challenges convention and proposes a new visual language.
THE NEW AVANT-GARDE is dedicated to photographers pushing fashion imagery into unexpected territory through concept, technique, composition, styling, or perspective.

This category examines beauty through an editorial fashion lens, celebrating close-up photography where precision, texture, expression, and detail become central to the image.

Fashion defined through movement, gesture, fabric, and energy.
FASHION IN MOTION recognizes photographs where movement transforms the image—whether through the body, clothing, physical gesture, or the interaction between subject and camera.

The Flagship Award
One image can capture attention. An editorial has the power to build an entire world.
THE EDITORIAL STORY is the flagship award of FASHION / FRAME and the only category judged as a complete body of work. Photographers are invited to submit one cohesive fashion editorial of 6–12 images, considered together as a singular visual story.

A total of 18 photographers will receive First, Second, or Third Place recognition across the six categories. The six First Place photographers will each receive a dedicated feature in the January print issue of BASIC Magazine.

JUDGED BY BASIC MAGAZINE EDITORIAL TEAM
FASHION / FRAME is open internationally to photographers 18 years of age and older, with winners selected by the BASIC Magazine Editorial Team.
Entries will be considered for originality, fashion relevance, creative direction, technical execution, category fit, and overall editorial impact. For THE EDITORIAL STORY, the complete body of work will also be considered through its cohesion, narrative, progression, and strength as a fashion editorial.
The competition is open to both emerging and established photographers, with each submission considered on the strength of the work itself.
Photographers retain the copyright to their work. Entering FASHION / FRAME does not transfer copyright ownership to BASIC Magazine or Kavyar.

The decision is intentional. As the boundaries of image-making continue to shift, FASHION / FRAME creates a space specifically dedicated to the craft of photography: the decisions made behind the camera, the collaboration on set, the relationship between photographer and subject, and the process of transforming an idea into an image.
This is a competition for original photographic work and the creative voices behind it.
